Roland Garros Paris, France – 27 May – 10 June
Everyone who is anyone in the world of great tennis has been involved and played at the Roland Garros French Open. This event is the second of the Grand Slam season and always manages to capture the hearts and minds of some of the most elite tennis players in the world. French tennis at one time used to be very low key, that was however until the Davis Cup in Paris in 1928. The final brought in an new era and French tennis Championships were born. Roland Garros is considered to be one of the four pillars of tennis today. However when it began in 1891 it was not the event of today. Today the Roland Garros French Open is as much about fashion and is a social gathering event that attracts some of the most prestigious individuals from around the world to watch world class battles be fought out on the courts.
F1 Gran Prix De Monaco Monaco – 24-27 May
The Monaco Grand Prix is a great mythical race that all the pilots dream to win on the circuit of the Principality. It is the slowest and the hardest of the World Formula 1 Championship. The Monaco Grand Prix began life with Anthony Noghes who at the age of 35 decided to test himself when he decided to race in Monaco. Some called him foolhardy to want to race around the roads of Monaco, which today are notorious and the Monaco Grand Prix is one of the toughest and most challenging of tracks that is raced by Formula 1 drivers. Since the beginning the track has undergone numerous changes and advancements. A swimming pool section was added for the pits on the quay, chicanes at the Rascasse hairpin bend and the five bend around the swimming pool redesigned. All of these changes have not affected the race and it is still one of the most demanding of tracks. Each year millions tune in to watch the Grand Prix live on TV while many more of the lucky ones actually enter Monaco to take the event in with their own eyes. The Russian Ballet Icons Gala 2012, a grand gala evening in honour of Anna Pavlova will be held on the 4th March on the stage of the English National Opera in London. Part of the Russian Ballet Icons series, the gala evening opens the Pavlova 2012 Festival marking the centenary of Anna Pavlova making her home in London at Ivy House, which has now become a place of pilgrimage for ballet lovers. Arts promoter Ensemble Productions is proud to present the evening accompanied with the orchestra of the English National Ballet under the direction of Valeriy Ovsyannikov. The evening will present a unique opportunity to see several pieces from Pavlova’s repertoire such as Paquita, The Pharoah’s Daughter, Le Roi Candaule, Giselle, La Bayadére, The Sleeping Beauty, Marcobomba, and including rarely performed pieces Egyptian Nights and Dragon Flight, which will be restored especially for this gala, as well as contemporary dedications to this great icon of ballet.
