Rub shoulders with the darlings of the motion picture arts industry this May as the stars of the silver screen converge on the French Riviera to celebrate the world famous Cannes Film Festival 2014.
Opening the film festival this year will be Grace of Monaco. Directed by Olivier Dahan, Grace of Monaco stars Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly and Tim Roth as Prince Rainier.
Jane Campion has been selected as president of the Palme d’Or jury for 2014. She is the first – and only – woman to win the Palme d’Or and is the first woman since 2009 to head up the jury. In 1993 she won the Palme d’Or for her film The Piano and went on to win an Oscar.
She says of Cannes: “It manages to combine and celebrate the glamour of the industry, the stars, the parties, the beaches, the business while rigorously maintaining the festival’s seriousness about the art and excellence of new world cinema.”
If you are in the area during the festival, you can catch classic films on the beach the Plage Mace, where there will be a free open air cinema.
