Novak Djokovic

The current batch of world tennis talent is widely regarded as the strongest line-up in the history of the sport. Defending champion Novak Djokovic faces daunting challenges from Swiss legend Roger Federer, three-time finalist Andy Murray and Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal who has been on scintillating form since his return from injury.

In the ladies singles competition, American Serena Williams is looking robust after picking up two majors in 2013, defending champion Victoria Azarenka has the experience of winning in Australia whilst Russian favourite Maria Sharapova will be determined to impress on her comeback.

The Australian Open 2014 boasts a revamped Margaret Court Arena following a $366 million dollar redevelopment with a new roof providing shade for spectators. Other new editions for 2014 include: Roger Federer signing up as Ambassador for Kid’s Tennis Day, the iconic Pete Sampras returning to Melbourne two decades after winning his first Australian Open men’s singles championship, an extended Australian Open Trophy Tour through Asia with first-time visits to Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong, a Legends Lunch in honour of Mervyn Rose and new restaurants Grass n Grain on the River Terrace and Zest which overlooks Garden Square.
