Wish your make-up would stay looking perfect and freshly applied all day? How about all night too? It’s easier than you think if you follow our 5 simple rules to stay-put make-up.
1. In your prime
Primer’s are nothing new, however their formulas and performance have come a long way. Primers are an essential step for lasting make-up as not only will they help your make-up adhere better to your skin, but they will also reduce the amount of foundation you will need to use. Pick an appropriate primer to suit your skin type for best results – we love Benefit Stay Flawless £24.50 and Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, £52.
2. Apply your make-up like a pro
Believe it or not, something as simple as using a make-up brush to apply your foundation will increase its longevity. Stippling brushes are ideal as they push foundation onto your skin better than fingers so it will adhere with your primer underneath. We like MAC 187 Duo Fibre Brush, £33.50.
3. Ace your base
Women are constantly on a search for their perfect foundation and longer lasting formulas have a reputation of looking thick and heavy – until now. A new generation of long-wear formulas deliver lasting results and a natural finish. Try Guerlain Tenue de Perfection foundation, £37 and Dior Forever Fluid Foundation, £32.
4. Finishing touches
Powder is essential to set your make-up and to prevent oil. Blotting on occasion throughout the day to remove shine is important – as is the powder you choose. The latest, ultra-fine finishing powders are so light your skin will never appear cakey or dry. We like Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder, £25 and the Hourglass Ambiant Lighting Powder, £38.
5. Fix me up
A technique once reserved for make-up artists – a make-up setting spray such as Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray, £19.50, will fix your make-up helping it stay on for up to 16 hours, while also adding a radiant finish effect.
