A fleet of 95 yachts from humble 30 footers to impressive super-maxis have been confirmed for the race, eclipsing the 76 that competed in 2012.

The 69th Rolex Sydney Hobart promises to be one of the most competitive for years, with five 100 foot super-maxi yachts in contention including the revamped Wild Oats XI skippered by Mark Richards.

Despite taking first place in 2012, with a race record time of 1 day, 18 hours, 23 minutes and 12 seconds in 2012, Wild Oats XI faces some stiff competition from the much fancied Perpetual LOYAL, featuring Olympic Gold Medalist and ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year, Tom Slingsby.

The gruelling 628 nautical mile course sets sail from Sydney Harbour before opening out into the Tasman Sea. The route continues across the Bass Strait, down the east coast of Tasmania and into the intimidatingly titled Storm Bay before the final sail up the Derwent River where spectators lining the shores, cheer the yachts on in what promises to be a frantic finish.

Here the winners will pop champagne corks from the deck of their vessel before partaking in an evening of celebration in the hospitality of Hobart.
