Arsenal v Chelsea, Emirates Stadium, 23 December 2013

Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on 23 December as the two London rivals go head to head in the Barclays Premier League.

Widely dismissed as genuine title contender’s pre-season, Arsenal have proven the critics wrong so far by setting the pace with an impressive 25 point haul from their opening 11 matches. Any anxieties over Mesut Ozil’s signing have been quickly put to bed; the German playmaker has hit the ground running since his club record summer transfer from Real Madrid. Alongside Aaron Ramsey, arguably the best player in the Premier League this year, the midfield duo has orchestrated much of Arsenal’s success during the current campaign.

Mourinho will be acutely aware of the danger of allowing Arsenal to open up too wide a gap at the top of the table and will be confident following his side’s recent 2-0 victory against the Gunners in the Fourth Round of the League Cup. Summer singing Samuel Eto has hit a recent vein of form with three goals in his last two games in all competitions and will be looking to cement his place as Chelsea’s main striking option ahead of Demba Ba and Fernando Torres.

With both sides all but guaranteed safe passage into the next stage of the Champion’s League, the Premier League clash represents a golden opportunity for the two clubs to get a grip on their title challenges. A draw won’t do either side many favours so expect both teams to go hammer and tongs in search of all three points.
