Soneva Fushi named best hotel

Soneva Fushi, the flagship back-to-nature luxury resort in the Maldives, has scooped the best hotel award in The Middle East, Africa & The Indian Ocean, a category voted for by the readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine.

The resort, which includes 65 sustainable high-ceiling villas was the Maldives’ first desert island hideaway when it opened in 1995, acting as the blueprint for an explosion of imitation luxury resorts in the idyllic atolls of the Maldives.

Guests at this utopian resort find themselves secluded by lush vegetation and local wildlife. There is an observatory with the most powerful telescope in the Indian Ocean, a private sand bank for the ultimate Robinson Crusoe experience and for true romantic indulgence, options for fine dining on a private beach peppered with warm glowing lanterns.

Collecting the award on behalf of The Soneva Group from the ceremony hosted in London’s British Museum earlier this month were Sonu Shivdasani, Founder and CEO, and his wife Eva, Creative Director. Sonu Shivdasani commented, “Eva and I are so happy that Soneva Fushi has been awarded best hotel in The Middle East, Africa & The Indian Ocean. We are always enhancing the resort with new features so our repeat guests enjoy a little serendipity each visit.”

This year Soneva Fushi continues its pioneering spirit with a new 8 bedroom Private Residence opening next month followed by a children’s Den in December.
