The Famous Grouse to release special 40yo blend

The Famous Grouse is preparing to release its most exclusive whisky to date, the special 40 year old blend. With only 276 available, the aged whisky is guaranteed to be a sought after addition to every whisky collector’s cabinet.

The whisky is housed in a special decanter, designed in partnership with Scottish design house Timorous Beasties. It depicts the red grouse sitting among foliage etched on to the glass topped with a Scottish silver stopper. The neck of each decanter also holds the number, ensuring authenticity. It’s housed in a smart wooden box, complete with a signature photo essay book with beautiful images showcasing the whisky making process.

The blend itself was initially created by the Master Blender at the time John Ramsay, and then left to mature in ex-sherry casks, which traditionally provide the fullest flavour over time. Gordon Motion, Master Blender for The Famous Grouse, is best placed to describe the flavour: “This is an intensely fruity, fragrant and slightly spicy whisky. On the nose you can first detect ripe mango, crushed coriander, cardamom and dill with a hint of sandalwood. Then you have sweetness on the palate with banana and citrus, along with gingerbread and a light peat smoke. The finish is very smooth and sweetly complex, a real joy.”

The Famous Grouse 40 year old will initially be available at Schipol airport from August, before being available across select travel retail outlets worldwide from October. Only 50 will be available in the UK from The Famous Grouse Experience in Crieff, Scotland. For more information visit The Famous Grouse online shop.
