The Cloisters is a four acre branch of The Metropolitan Museum in New York which overlooks the Hudson River. To celebrate its 75th anniversary, the museum has announced a special ‘Search for the Unicorn’ exhibition.
The Unicorn tapestries were donated by John D. Rockefeller Junior for the opening of The Cloisters in 1938. This collection of 40 textile art masterpieces serve as complicated metaphors of Christ, emblems of matrimony and medieval notions about the natural world spanning the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance.
