The Top 5 Whiskies for Father’s Day

With Father’s Day just around the corner we asked The Whisky Shop to tell us its top five whiskies that make the perfect gift. From smokey and spicy, to fruity and sweet, if your father likes a wee dram and appreciates a good malt, this is the selection for you. Enjoy!

1. Bowmore Platinum

Bowmore Platinum 21

A gentle Bowmore with cool menthol and beach bonfire smoke on the nose, there’s the memory of Blackpool rock, and also soft pine and camphor. It has a dry ashy mouth feel and sweetens with some soft yellow fruits and touch of citrus, or candied lemon. The finish is an elegant balancing act of fruits, spices, smoke and oak.

2. Highland Park Loki

Highland Park Loki

A 15 year old limited edition single malt bottled at 48.7% abv and housed in the same unique and award winning wooden frame as Thor, echoing the fearsome contours of a traditional Viking long ship.

Loki has a waxy texture amplified by an intense smoke which fades as liquorice and rich spiced apple flavours come out to play. Lemon and grapefruit are consistent throughout this elusive yet intriguing character.

3. Macallan 18 Years Old

Macallan Single Cask 18 Year old

This is a feisty, aggressive version of Macallan, and most unusual. Full of rich Speyside fruits, this whisky has plenty going on throughout but it’s surprisingly earthy. A perfect whisky for any Macallan fan who wants to see the other side of the gentle giant.

4. Glenfarclas 105

Glenfarclas 105

A limited release, it’s a strong rich oak with powerful aromas.  A typical Glenfarclas nose with Demerara sugar and figs, it has a sweet taste which melts into bitterness. Glenfarclas 105 20 years’ old has a lovely long finish making it a dram to savour, the ideal gift for Father’s Day.

5. The Glenlivet Quercus

The Glenlivet Quercus

A rare and collectible single cask whisky aged for 17 years in American white oak or ‘Quercus Alba’, The Glenlivet Quercus. Aged in just one cask, there are only 250 bottles of The Glenlivet Quercus in existence, which are available exclusively from The Whisky Shop and would make the ultimate collector’s gift this Father’s Day. Each bottle of The Glenlivet Quercus is individually labelled with the cask number, cask name, age and bottling date; a record of the rarity of the whisky, which will never again be produced.
