Autumn leaves

It’s a funny time Autumn. We mournfully wave goodbye to summer while reaching for the thermostat, secretly quite glad it’s now acceptable to be in PJs with a Horlicks before 8pm. Garden furniture is heaved to the shed or disappears under a mound of leaves, and people willfully ignore the use of the ‘C’ word until after Hallowe’en. Yes, the pretty bridging season between the fun in the sun of summer and the sparkling delight of Christmas (sorry) in winter really is an interesting one.

It’s fair to say that one of the best things about the coming of Autumn is the absolute need to buy new, seasonally relevant, things. Whether it’s wellies to keep feet dry, cushions or throws to feather the nest, or simply grout to seal the draught, Autumn is the time to stock-up, collect and prepare for winter; the anti-spring if you will.

It’s with this in mind that we’ve decided to focus a lot of our October attention on the art of creation. How are some of the things we value and treasure the most made? We’ve spoken to a variety of super-luxe brands, big and small, and asked them to share just how they produce some of their prized pieces. Keep an eye out for the assortment of images and videos which will be coming this way throughout the next four weeks, covering everything from handbags and jewellery, to fine furniture and bespoke games.

Now, you’ll have to excuse me, I’m off to buy an umbrella.
