It is the fourth and final tennis the Grand Slam of the year following the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon.
The championship has been contested at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York City since 1978.
The main court is located at the 22,500 plus seated Arthur Ashe stadium which opened in 1997. The second largest court is the Louis Armstrong Stadium named in honour of the legendary jazz singer.
